Rainbow Milk Experiment
Today for Super Science Wednesday we used milk, food colouring and dish soap. We used eyedroppers to drop the food colouring onto the milk. We talked about our observations and made some "I SEE" statements. For example, "I see the colours staying in one spot." The colours did not mix at this point in the experiment.
Next we added a few drops of dish soap. Look what happened! The colours moved to the edge of the container.
As all good scientists do, we repeated the experiment again using a different container and different amounts of dish soap. We made some "I THINK" statements. For example, "I think the colours will mix together more because we are using a circle dish this time." We observed the colours move to the edge of the container again!
Next, the children made some "I WONDER" statements. We wondered how we could mix the colours together. We used straws to stir the milk/food coloring/dish soap mixture. We came up with the idea to "blow" on the mixture and we were excited to see the colours swirl together.
