Apple Explosion
Super Science Wednesday

This Wednesday we enjoyed an exciting experiment using vinegar, baking soda, food coloring and apples!

We cut out the center of an apple to make a little bowl.
Next we mixed vinegar with food coloring in a measuring cup.
Then we poured the colored vinegar into the apple.
Finally, we added a few spoonfuls of vinegar.
Then we made predictions about what we thought would happen!
Take a look at what happened!

Getting ready to see what will happen...

Take a look at the excited faces when the children saw the vinegar react with the baking soda.  It made a fuzzy bubbling mixture that overflowed out of the apple - like a volcano!  We talked about the meaning of the word "reaction".  Many of the children were so excited they volunteered to draw pictures and write words about this experiment in our class super science journal!
