Fossil Playdough

Recently, some of the children have expressed an interest in fossils.  During outdoor playtime, the children sometimes show things they have found and some of the children think they have found fossils outside.  This has lead to a discussion in our classroom about what a fossil is and what it looks like.  This then lead to this week's Super Science Wednesday experiment - making our very own "fossil play dough".

This is the recipe for the "fossil play dough".  Very easy, but a great way to talk about measurement with your child.  We also talked about our senses as we could "smell" the ingredients, "see" the mixture and "feel" the play dough when it was all made.

We had fun pressing things into the play dough to make our very own print, just like a real fossil.  We used seashells, beads, and plastic animals to do this.

Check out how cool our fossils look!  A great activity to try at home!
