The Colours of Nature

A very special thanks to all those who brought in items from nature to our class this week.  The children were eager to explore these natural items.  As we have continued our inquiry on colour, we discussed the different colours we saw in the nature items.  We have been practising sorting skills in math and some students showed an interest in sorting the items into groups (e.g., flowers, feather, pine cones, rocks, etc.).

We decided to add paper, clipboards and oil pastels to our "colours of nature" center.  The children got very busy drawing pictures of the beautiful nature items.

Exploring Colours

This week our young learners are busy exploring colours.  We experimented with water, food coloring and droppers to see what happens when we mix colours together.

Look at the wonderful colours we made! We compared our colour creations with a paint sample card.

Each child made a picture using their favorite colour crayon.  We sorted the papers on the carpet by colour.  Guess what colour was picked by the most number of children?  PURPLE!

We continued colour mixing during our Super Science Wednesday experiment!  Using our hands was just the best way to mix colours!

We created a science experiment in our classroom to further test colour mixing.  We left our experiment set up overnight and we are excited to see what changes may have occurred when we come to school tomorrow.  What is your prediction?

Welcome to Ms. Ducharme and Mrs. Stecher's JK/SK Class

We did it!  We made it through the first week of kindergarten.  The students did a fantastic job of settling into the rules and routines of our classroom.  A great big thanks to all our returning Senior Kindergarten students who helped our new JK friends adjust to their new classroom!

Take a look at the following photos to see what kept us busy during the first week!

The listening center was a popular place during playtime.  Here are some friends enjoying some music on our beanbag chairs!

We are learning to share our ideas, thoughts and experiences with others during circle time.  We looked at this big book photo and talked about what we thought was happening.  Great sharing of ideas kindergarten friends!

Mr. Willms took us to gym class! Look at us go!

Learning through play keeps us busy!

We spent lots of time this week exploring our names.
