Apple Explosion
Super Science Wednesday

This Wednesday we enjoyed an exciting experiment using vinegar, baking soda, food coloring and apples!

We cut out the center of an apple to make a little bowl.
Next we mixed vinegar with food coloring in a measuring cup.
Then we poured the colored vinegar into the apple.
Finally, we added a few spoonfuls of vinegar.
Then we made predictions about what we thought would happen!
Take a look at what happened!

Getting ready to see what will happen...

Take a look at the excited faces when the children saw the vinegar react with the baking soda.  It made a fuzzy bubbling mixture that overflowed out of the apple - like a volcano!  We talked about the meaning of the word "reaction".  Many of the children were so excited they volunteered to draw pictures and write words about this experiment in our class super science journal!

Trip to the Firehall

We enjoyed a fantastic trip to the firehall on Tuesday October 14th!  We were very proud of how well our students listened and answered questions about fire safety!

Take a look at some photos of our outing!
Firefighter Brian showed us all the equipment a firefighter  wears!

Learning lots of fire safety rules from the firefighters.  Can you name some fire safety rules we discussed at the firehall?

Getting to spend time with Sparky!

Sitting in the fire truck!

Practicing stop, drop and roll!

A great trip to the firehall!  Thanks to all the parents who joined us on this outing!  A special thanks to Mr. Malott for helping to organize this trip!

Fun at the Fall Market
We are continuing to learn about the seasonal changes associated with fall.  We have been busy converting our house center into a fall market.  The children were actively involved in this process as they helped print letters on signs, sorted materials and created artwork for this center.  We have been very impressed by the cooperation shown by the children as they play at this center and work together to tidy it up at clean up time.

A Fun Day At the Apple Orchard

The sun may not have been shining, but our kindergarten friends still had a great trip to Thiessen's Apple Orchard on Tuesday!
Thanks so much to the many parents and grandparents who volunteered and helped provide supervision on this outing.  We are excited to continue our learning about apples this week back at school.  We will begin our "apple inquiry" by observing how apples change in the baking and drying process.  As well, we will be coming up with "I wonder…" statements to further our learning about apples.  For example, we have already investigated the "I wonder if apples sink or float"….and the answer is…they float!

Here are lots of photos of our great day at the orchard!

At the very start of our visit, we learned about the life cycle of an apple tree.

All aboard the wagon to head to the apple orchard!

We just had to sample the apples as we picked...

Who is that hiding in the apple orchard?
