Our Trip to Fighting Island

Our trip to Fighting Island was certainly an adventure.  The weather could have been better, but our brave parents and students still had a good time despite the cold, wind and wet!

Take a look at some of our favorite moments from the trip...

The boat ride was the most exciting part of the field trip!

We found lots of deer tracks and made a deer footprint.  Every child should have brought their footprint home by now.  This was an interesting and messy activity!!

We found some bones from a deer!  Here we talked about the words "prey" and "predator".

Next we went off to the pond with our nets to see what interesting things we could find!  We collected some tiny creatures in jars to observe later back in the portable.

This may be hard to see but it is a mother goose sitting on her nest. We couldn't get too close as she was very protective of her little ones.

A killdeer bird on its nest.

Off we went on a hike...

Some unusual looking "wooly bear caterpillars".

Back in the warmth of the portable classroom, we examined our findings from the pond using microscopes.

A list of the different things we observed under the microscopes.

A great day on the island, despite the weather.  Thanks to everyone who came with us for their help in supervising the children.  It was a day the kids will be talking about for a long time!
