Good-bye to a great year!

It has been a great year in JK/SK!  This will be the last blog post for this school year.  With the last week of school upon us, there is much to do to close up our kindergarten classroom, so I know I won't be getting on the computer again to repost.  I hope you have enjoyed following our year on this blog and have been able to have some great conversations with your child about their experiences.

We will end off with some photos of our Mad Science show from Thursday June 20th.  The children had an amazing time thanks to the wonders of Super Scientist Justin from Mad Science.  The children learned about dry ice, melting, bubbles, oxygen and carbon dioxide.  Great learning for our young friends!

Looking forward to seeing many of you at the family picnic on Tuesday!  Have a safe and happy summer!  See you in September!

Our Trip to Camp Gesstwood....

Well, it was the trip that never was!  Unfortunately due to flooding conditions at Gesstwood camp, we were unable to go on our field trip on Thursday June 13th.  We broke the news to the children and decided we would make our very own special day!  So, since we had rain boots, we went outside and explored the many puddles in our school yard.  This was a big treat, since normally we tell the children "Stay out of the puddles".  Take a look at our children having a great time exploring the puddles.  Going for this little "rainboot walk" turned into a measurement discussion, as the children compared the depths of different puddles!  We sang the song "In My Big Rubber Boots" as we stomped through the puddles and the children even created their very own chant, "Rubber boots are fun!".

On our walk, we heard some interesting sounds coming from the pond area.  Guess what it was?  Bullfrogs!  The bullfrogs sounded pretty happy that morning!

A special thanks to Mrs. Soulliere for providing our class with a hot chocolate and timbit treat on this day!  We also joined with Mrs. Burkhart's JK/SK class to have "together playtime".  So, we started our day with our "thumbs down", but by the end of the day  our thumbs were up and we were smiling!

We are looking forward to our upcoming events, Mad Science, Clarol the Clown and an ice cream treat day, in place of our field trip!

Super Science Wednesday Experiment

This experiment is a repeat from last year because the SKs keep asking for it!

Where did we do this experiment?
Outside...because it can get messy!

What did we use?
Diet coke, coke and Mentos

What did we do?
Put several Mentos into the pop bottle and watch for the REACTION!

Our friends from Mrs. Burkhart and Mrs. Lounsbury's class joined us outside to watch this experiment.  Take a look at the "explosion" that happened!  We observed that the Mentos put in the Diet Coke had a bigger reaction than the Mentos put in the regular coke.  We could tell because there was LESS pop left in the Diet Coke bottle.

Creating the Camping Center

Our dramatic play area has changed yet again!  This time we have worked together to create our very own camping center, complete with a forest scene, night sky, flashlights, tents and roasting marshmallows!  Take a look at our little campers at work and at play!  This center is a big hit!
