A great way to end our first week back after Christmas holidays...exploring musical instruments in the music room.

Merry Christmas!

On behalf of Mrs. Stecher and myself, we would like to wish all of our kindergarten families a very happy holiday season.  School resumes again on Monday January 9th.

Here is a peek at a few things that happened around school during the last week of school before the holidays!  

Concert night!  We are so proud of our kindergarten friends for a fantastic job performing in the Winter Concert!

Super Science Wednesday...Which liquid will make the candy canes dissolve first!  Hot water, oil, cold water or vinegar?

We enjoyed playing math and literacy games this week at school.  Playing games during the holiday season is a great way to develop math, literacy and problem-solving skills!

Guess where we are going? We went on a hunt to find our elf? Our elf has been visiting our class each day for the past two weeks.  On Thursday, our elf was not in the classroom.  We went on a hunt and found him in the office.  He ate some of Mrs. Vickerd's candies and messed up her stickers.  What a silly elf!

Happy Holidays to all!

We have a very, very busy week ahead of us as we get closer and closer to the holiday break.

Christmas concert, looking for our Elf each day, making cards/gifts for our family and having a special PJ day on Friday with yummy treats...so much to do!

Today we enjoyed a simple holiday activity that involved math skills.  Each student had to roll the dice.  The first roll represented the number of red links on our paper chain.  Then each student had to roll again.  The second roll represented the number of green links on our paper chain.  Our next challenge was to print a number sentence about our paper chain (e.g., 2 +3=5 represented 2 red links plus 3 green links equals 5 links on the chain all together).

Getting ready for the holidays wouldn't be complete, without baking gingerbread cookies!  Today we read the story "The Gingerbread Boy".  

We explored the concept of measurement as we measured ingredients to make the cookies. 

Yummy!!

We also made gingerbread boys using art materials!  Watch out for all those sparkles!!

Exploring Shapes

Over the past few weeks, we have been exploring geometric shapes at school.  We began by exploring 2-Dimensional shapes.   We created pictures using 2-dimensional shapes, used geoboards to explore shapes and went on a shape hunt around the school.

We have now moved on to exploring 3-dimensional shapes.  We have focused our learning on cubes, cones, cylinders, spheres and rectangular prisms.

Santa's Workshop!

Santa's Workshop is Open!

After lots of work to prepare it, we opened our Santa's Workshop center and Post Office center.  The children have been very busy creating holiday cards, wrapping gifts, printing gift tags, and pretending to be elves and reindeers.
