Happy 100th day of Kindergarten

What a busy week of kindergarten!  On Thursday we celebrated the big 100!  100 days of kindergarten!  The children were eager to show their collection of "100 objects".  We added the final sticker to our "Counting 100 days of kindergarten" chart!

Here are some of our friends wearing their special "100 day" headbands!

This was a big challenge…"We can write 100 words".   We were very proud of all the words we could write!

We needed to get some exercise so we did 100 exercises!

Working on some 100 day artwork!

We made an ice-cream cone as we counted to 100 by 10's!

These friends were proud of their hard work!  Fantastic job printing numbers from 1 to 100!

OUTDOOR LEARNING IN THE SNOW!

What Colour is the Snow?

Today we took our learning outside! The snow is a big topic of conversation in our classroom these days!  The children are sharing lots of their observations about the snow during discussion times.

Painting is a popular activity in our classroom…but today we took the paint outside.  We decided to explore what would happen if we painted the snow!

We had so much fun with this activity that we decided to fill our water table with snow!  This way the "painting snow" activity could continue inside!!  We left the "painted snow" in our water table overnight…we wonder what will that look like by the time we return to school in the morning!

Welcome to the Bakery!

Our bakery center has been a very popular place in our classroom.  Thanks so much to all the families that donated items for this center.  The children have been cooperating very well as they play in this center!  We incorporated literacy into the making of this center, as students worked together to make signs!  Take a look at our little bakers at work and play!

Foaming Snowman

Today for Super Science Wednesday, we continued talking about how different materials react with one another.  This time we got to observe a very cool reaction involving a snowman!  Take a look at the recipe we followed…this is a great one to try at home.  After creating the snowman, we used a squirt bottle filled with vinegar to spray the snowman…That is when the fun began!  Check out the great reaction that occurred!  Our snowman fizzled and foamed and melted away!!  We compared this to what happens when it rains or the sun comes out and how our snowman is affected!

Measuring Snowmen

We are beginning the new year with a unit on measurement.  The children are learning that their are different ways to measure using standard and non-standard measuring devices.  Non-standard devices might include string, shoes, blocks and paperclips.  Standard measuring devices might include tape measure, measuring cups, ruler and a scale.

Take a look at out beautiful snowman we created at the art center using a variety of materials and techniques.  We then used our snowmen as part of a math measurement activity and had the students using cubes to measure the height.  We displayed them all on the bulletin board.  We are very proud of our great work!
