Good-bye Butterflies

Our caterpillars have made their transformation into butterflies.  The children have been eager to share their observations everyday of the life cycle of the butterfly.

After a couple weeks in our classroom, Friday was the day to say good-bye to some of our butterfly friends. (We still have a few in chrysalis stage, but by Monday, we expect to release those butterflies).  The children waved good-bye to their butterfly friends as we released each one.  Our butterflies are "painted lady butterflies".

Be sure to ask your child to talk to your about their observations and learning from this great experience.  Here are some photos to share of our butterfly release!

Eat a Rainbow

We celebrated "eat a rainbow" day on Wednesday.  We were pleased to use funds from our Metro Green Apple Food Grant to fund this activity.  Throughout the year, we have been encouraging the students to eat healthy, nutritious foods.  We are helping them to recognize the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle through eating and exercise.

The fruit and vegetable rainbows were a huge success!  We were even excited to see that some students tried new fruits/vegetables for the very first time!

The talk of "rainbow of healthy foods" prompted us to create our very own rainbows!  We used a variety of different art mediums, such as paints, oil pastels, paint stamps and rip/tear art.

Such beautiful work!

We worked with our grade 5/6 buddies to create nutrition posters to promote healthy eating.  The students had to come up with a plan for an interesting poster to encourage nutritious food choices!

Bubble Day!!

On Wednesday, our super science activities centered around "bubbles".  We explored the following "I Wonders...":

I wonder how big a bubble I can blow.
I wonder how high the bubbles will go.
I wonder which bubble blower will work the best.
I wonder if the weather is good today for bubble blowing.

Thanks to everyone who brought in some bubble supplies.  The children had a great time exploring bubbles!
