3-Dimensional Learning Fun

Thanks to everyone who brought objects from home for our 3-dimensional shape day!

We identified, sorted and discussed the characteristics of these shapes.

We identified which group had the most and which group had the least!

Remember to keep looking for these shapes around the house!

The Mitten

This week we read the story "The Mitten" by Jan Brett.  The children had the chance to act out this story at one of our centers using animal figures and a mitten.  We also worked with our grade 5/6 buddies to create a paper mitten with the story characters.  Each  child in the class has had the opportunity to retell the story using his/her own words.

Here is a link to the story "The Mitten" for you to enjoy at home.

Making Our Own Snow!

Well...we were getting tired of waiting for some winter snow, so our Super Science Wednesday investigation lead us to creating our very own snow. We wondered whether our "fake snow" would be like real snow.

To make our "fake snow", we mixed shaving cream with baking soda. We made a chart to compare how real snow feels and how our Super Science snow felt.

We concluded that our Super Science snow felt very much like real snow! It was soft, squishy, wet, mushy and white. We did not need mittens to play in it and we could play with it inside without melting!
