Earth Day is Every Day

This week our focus has shifted to environmental awareness in honour of Earth Day.  We had the opportunity to participate in activities involving the entire school, such as an assembly by ERCA about water conservation and planting a tree in our school yard. We also explored the topic of environmental awareness in our very own classroom.  We made instruments out of recyclable materials, practiced appropriate sorting of items in the red/blue bin and read non-fiction texts about environmentally friendly practices.

Exploring the items in our blue box at school.

Exploring items in our garbage can. We talked about the importance of reducing the items in our garage bin and the use of landfill sites.

Take a look at our "earth" necklaces. We made these by recycling juice can lids!

We participated in a tree planting ceremony as part of the Essex Communities in Bloom program.

We will be continuing to explore the topic of caring for our earth over the next few days.  We are proud of our youngest learners as they make an effort to protect our earth!

Pj and Stuffed Animal Day

After working hard to earn all of our stickers on our "Rainbow of Good Choices", we celebrated with our pjs and stuffed animals.  It was a beautiful day, so we took our learning outside for an extended period of time.  We brought the sand table, books and blocks out.  We also enjoyed using the brand new tricycles Mrs. Peta recently purchased for our early years program.

Back in the classroom, we got to work on building a fort for our stuffed animal friends.  Took some planning, problem-solving and cooperation to make the fort successfully.

A Trip to the Pond

Today we took our Super Science investigations outside.  We took a nature walk around our school pond area.  We saw some signs of spring, such as buds on trees, mud and tulips.  We also were excited to see frogs, turtles and birds.  It was a great afternoon of outdoor exploration.  Upon our return to the classroom, we made a list of the things we saw.  Each child then made an entry about what he/she saw in their science journal.

Our Footprint Rainbow

Thanks to our friend Abigail, we were inspired today to create a rainbow using our footprints.  Abigail's leader of the day story was about rainbows and led us into this inquiry about rainbows.  We had lots of fun creating this fun piece of artwork. Thanks to Mrs.York for helping out with this project!

Vet Center

The vet center has been a very popular new play place in our classroom.  Thanks to those who donated items to this center. We have been impressed by the cooperative play happening at this center.  Also, lots of great literacy opportunities as well as the children are copying print and writing.

Happy Easter!!

Happy Easter to All!

We hope everyone enjoyed a fantastic long Easter weekend.  We had lots of fun and learning at school as we participated in egg experiments, an egg hunt and explored different art techniques as we decorated paper eggs.
