Super Science Fun - Melting

We are continuing to build upon the children's interest in science and discovery, so we focussed once again on snow for this week's Super Science investigation.

The question posed to the children was…

"What can we do to melt snow in different ways?"

Our little scientists got their thinking caps on and right away the hands were up with lots of ideas of different things we could do to melt snow.  So, the race was on to see which method would melt the snow the fastest.

Here we talked about different types of salt…this is not the type of salt we use in cooking and baking.

One suggestion was to hold the snow in our hand….we discovered that while the snow did melt, it was way too cold to do that for very long! That is why we wear mittens and gloves!

Another suggestion was to use a fan.

Here is the snow by the heater.

The discovery was made that by adding warm water, the snow melted the fastest.  Some of our students carried on their investigation well into our next big play time and experimented with adding water to the snow.  It was another great Super Science Wednesday of learning and discovery!

Alphabet Fun!

Today was one of those days when the children directed the path of learning in the classroom.  One of our friends, discovered he could make the "uppercase letter A" using our straws/connectors tub toy.  Well, that sparked some interest and before long we were all involved in making letters using different materials around the room.
Can you figure out the letters we created?

Happy Valentine's Day!

Friday was another busy day in kindergarten as we celebrated Valentine's day!  A special thanks to the grade eight students from Mr. Klassen's class that helped the kindergarten students deliver their valentines!

We enjoyed lots of center activities on this day.  Thanks also to the many parents and grandparents that volunteered their time at school!  One of our most favorite centers was the "decorate cupcake" table!  Yummy!

Here we are making some special Valentine art!
We love you to pieces!

Happy 100th day of Kindergarten

What a busy week of kindergarten!  On Thursday we celebrated the big 100!  100 days of kindergarten!  The children were eager to show their collection of "100 objects".  We added the final sticker to our "Counting 100 days of kindergarten" chart!

Here are some of our friends wearing their special "100 day" headbands!

This was a big challenge…"We can write 100 words".   We were very proud of all the words we could write!

We needed to get some exercise so we did 100 exercises!

Working on some 100 day artwork!

We made an ice-cream cone as we counted to 100 by 10's!

These friends were proud of their hard work!  Fantastic job printing numbers from 1 to 100!
