Making Music!

This week's Super Science Wednesday combined science with music.  We explored the idea of making music without instruments.  We used water, glasses and spoons to experiment with sound.  Guess what we discovered?

1.  We can make music using water, glasses and a metal spoon.
2.  Using a plastic spoon and plastic cups made a different sound.  We liked the sound made by the glasses and metal spoon the best.  It sounded like bells!
3.  The sound made by the glass/spoon/water changed depending on the amount of water in the glass!

It was a great exploration with lots of eager and enthusiastic music makers and scientists!  Have some fun and try this at home!  It will be music to your ears!!

The Grocery Store is Open!

We have finally opened our class grocery store and it has been a busy new center.  The students worked hard at making price tags and signs for this center.  It is great to see them use their imagination as they role play buying items at the grocery store.  We loved seeing the students try to sound out words and copy print to make their very own grocery lists!  Take a look at who did some shopping this week….

Coming soon….we will be changing this dramatic play area into a "holiday house".

Music Monday

While we sing and dance many days of the school week, on Mondays we especially like to focus on music!  Over the past few weeks, we have been talking about different sounds and how music is made.  We have experimented with different instruments, as drums, triangles, bells and xylophones.  Today we experimented with making music using different common objects from around the classroom.  We used problem-solving skills as we figured out ways to produce sounds.

Do you recognize some common materials that we are using to make sound?

Here is our musical band!

This book inspired us to create music using objects from around the room!

BLACK AND ORANGE DAY!

We had a very very busy black and orange day on October 31st.  Thanks so much to the parents and grandparents that helped out.  We enjoyed making ghosts, decorating cupcakes, playing number bingo, acting out the 5 Little Pumpkins and listening to a spooky story.

Hope everyone had a very happy and safe Halloween!
