Pete the Cat

Who doesn't love Pete the Cat?  Check out the link below to see one of our favorite Pete the Cat stories.

On Thursday, we enjoyed reading about Pete the Cat and his Magic Sunglasses.  Here we are in our sunglasses enjoying story time!

We also enjoyed reading the story Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes.  Here is the story for you to enjoy (and sing along) at home.

This story lead us to some discussion about different shoes.  This  connected to our math learning focus of sorting.  We all took off one show and then sorted our shoes into different groups…Can you figure out our "sorting rule" for each photograph?

We enjoyed "painting with shoes" with Mrs. Allan at the art center.  It was fun to see the different prints the shoes made on then paper (don't worry mom and dad…we didn't use our new school shoes, we used some very old shoes Ms. Ducharme and Mrs. Allan had collected).

It has been a lot of fun reading Pete the Cat stories.  We will continue to read some more in the week ahead!!

Outdoor Learning at Colchester North Public School

One of our learning focuses for this school year is to build upon the children's interest in outdoor learning.  Over the past week at school, the children were extremely excited about the many grasshoppers they found outside on the playground.  We are working together to develop a list of questions and "I wonder" statements about grasshoppers.  We are going to use this list to further our learning and understanding of this interesting insect.  Take a look at our friends enjoying some beautiful September outdoor learning time!

Using little containers, tweezers and magnifying glasses to explore the school playground.

Looking through the fence to see what creatures might be living there!

Finding a little grasshopper friend!

Working with Mrs. Allan to collect some grasshoppers to bring in to the classroom for a little further observation.  We made sure to release the grasshoppers to the outdoors at the end of the day.

WELCOME TO THE JK/SK BLOG FOR THE 2014 - 2015 SCHOOL YEAR!

Welcome to our classroom blog.  I hope you will enjoy checking the blog on a regular basis to see photos and read information about what is happening in our very busy full day early learning program.  Please take note of the links on the blog to information from the school board website, school webpage, bussing information and some links to some educational games you can enjoy with your child at home.  I try to update the blog once a week.  The blog provides a great opportunity to engage in conversation with your child about his/her learning at school!

Take a look at just a few photos of our friends from our first week of school!  Mrs. Allan and I are very proud of the quick adjustment to the school rules and routines that the students are making. We are continuing to emphasize these rules, such as using our words, walking feet in the classroom, inside voice, gentle hands and caring for our classroom and personal belongings!
