Happy Valentine's  Day!

Wishing a very happy Valentine's Day to all our kindergarten friends and family.  We had a busy day giving out our Valentine cards, creating "I Love" pages, playing special games and creating heart art!  A very special thanks to Mrs. Santos and Mrs. Klassen for helping us at school today!

A Visit from an Author from Africa!

Mr. Bill Martens visited our class.  Mr. Martens is an author who has travelled to Africa.  He shared stories of his adventures in Africa.  We learned lots from his visit.

We got to touch a snake skin from a python!

We learned about the animals of Africa...lions, elephants and cheetahs.

We explored musical instruments from Africa.

We Think We Can!!

On Friday, our JK/SK classes joined together with the grade 7 class to do a short presentation to the school on "perseverance".  We learned that this big word means..."Stick with it!  You can do it!".

We followed the theme of "The Little Engine That Could"!  We are very proud of our students for a terrific performance!

Building Castles in Kindergarten

We are exploring different types of literature.  We have begun an inquiry on fairy tales.  This interest began with the opening of our new castle center.

During  Super Super Science Wednesday, we were challenged to build a castle in a small group.  We had to problem solve how to construct the castle and how to work as a team.

We looked at photos of castles on the Smartboard before we began, so that we had some ideas to begin this activity.  We tried to create a plan and set to work on building.

Take a look at our amazing castles!

Let's Measure!

This week, we began exploring the concept of measurement.  We are learning to use "non-standard" measuring tools, such as popsicle sticks, paperclips, markers and cubes.  We made snowman and set to work on measuring our snowman using different "non-standard" measuring tools.  Take a look at our great work!  Soon we will explore measurement with "standard" tools, such as rulers, measuring tape, scales and clocks.

Making Music

A great way to end our first week back after Christmas holidays...exploring musical instruments in the music room.

Merry Christmas!

On behalf of Mrs. Stecher and myself, we would like to wish all of our kindergarten families a very happy holiday season.  School resumes again on Monday January 9th.

Here is a peek at a few things that happened around school during the last week of school before the holidays!

Concert night!  We are so proud of our kindergarten friends for a fantastic job performing in the Winter Concert!

Super Science Wednesday...Which liquid will make the candy canes dissolve first!  Hot water, oil, cold water or vinegar?

We enjoyed playing math and literacy games this week at school.  Playing games during the holiday season is a great way to develop math, literacy and problem-solving skills!

Guess where we are going? We went on a hunt to find our elf? Our elf has been visiting our class each day for the past two weeks.  On Thursday, our elf was not in the classroom.  We went on a hunt and found him in the office.  He ate some of Mrs. Vickerd's candies and messed up her stickers.  What a silly elf!

Can you find the elf hiding in this picture?

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
See you in January!
